Thanks for the Struggle

Poem by Faith Hughes

8 years old

my blood being drained by the pain

They say

no pain no gain

but I have yet to see the gain though

out of all the pain I have felt

were the words of my great grandfather

as they let him hang

like a brown leaf ready to fall from a tree

Me myself and I

stabbed by no stained

persecuted but not forsaken

Blind and traumatized

by the fact that they just legalized

to kill a man spill a man

border line chord line slit his throat

This is a life of slavery and struggle

but thank God I made it

My past life has faded

My new life is shaded

but still covered with prosperity

Thanks for the struggle
