Reflection

Poem By Marquita Williams From Central VPA High School

She wants long straight hair
but her curly Afro is just as beautiful

She wants bright blue eyes
but her gorgeous brown eyes glimmer in the sunlight

She wants to be thin
but her curves run deep like backroads

She wants perfect clear skin
but her scars tell stories
But her stretch marks are as if they were beautifully painted

She wants to be the beauty that’s normalized because she’s scared of creating her own
definition of beautiful
