in another life

anonymous

In another life: we walk down the street together.

I swing your hand with every step, and you let me. You stop to pick a flower. I pull you off course to look in a store window. The wind brushes through our hair.

In another life:

your arm goes around my waist as we walk the halls together.  In another, you tell me that I always occupy a place in your heart. Your words fill the void in mine.

In another life: you turned in the car seat and your hair was blowing in the wind and you looked so beautiful. And I stood on the front doorstep and smiled shyly. And I never told you.

In another life I would  have loved you forever if you had asked or if you let me or if you loved me back.

In another life, you know that as long as I exist, you are loved. In another life you tell me: that sometimes you wonder why any of us are here, what we’re meant to do. I look at you and

I know the answer.

In another life you say you think you’re hard to love. I know that it’s easy. I do it every day. In another life, you stand as a monolith. I bow, for you are greater than I can ever dream. But no utopia is perfect.

In another life, I never see you again. I still love you.

In another I’m sitting alone at a cafe when I realize I haven’t thought of you in a while. How nice to have forgotten you.

In another, I know how this will end. I do it all anyway.

In another life, we’ve forgotten where we’re going but the point was the journey, not the arrival, just as long as we’re together.

In another life it’s alright as just friends. I watch you when you’re not looking and try to stay on my side of the couch. In another life they ask me who I love and my heart spells out your name.

In another life, I beg you to stay and never hear your answer.

In another, you’re comfortable enough to sing at the top of your voice and I slip into perfect harmony.

In another life, you are the sun and I am Icarus, risking it all for the freedom of your touch. At the apex of my arc, the wax melts and my wings tear loose from my body. As I plummet towards the sea, my last thought is of your laugh. Even as you turn to leave I see the beauty of your sunset and I go loving you until the night has fallen.

In another life I do it all again in a heartbeat. For you.

In another life, you are an echo and I finally hear the words I wished to for so long.

In another life, you kiss me when you tell me you love me so I can taste the lie.

In another life:

you are light at the end of the tunnel. I can hear the whistle of the train. Do I move?

In another life— you don’t feel the same and the world keeps revolving around the sun. I keep revolving around you. In another life, I can wipe your tears before they fall. I take your hand in the dark and you know that everything will be alright.

I tell you the stories of the constellations in your eyes until you learn to see them yourself.

In another life, I only see you once, in passing. My head does not turn. I never know what I missed. In another life, we dream of each other / In another life, the line between love and hate is a mirror and I am your reflection.

The more I love you the more I hate myself, until we are both lost in the reddish haze.

In another life—I wake up next to you and smile. In another life, you ask me to stay.

In another life, they tell me I can be anything I want. I choose to be yours. In another— I don’t miss loving you. I don’t miss my heart speeding up when I hear your voice. I don’t miss the late nights thinking of your smile. I don’t miss the tears and pain and longing.

In another life, you’re sorry if you hurt me. You did.
